"DIRECT HIT":
Israeli Newspaper Coverage of the First Two Days of Operation “Cast Lead” |
A review of coverage of the first two days of Operation “Cast Lead” in the Israeli print media suggests that coverage of the military confrontation in the south is characterized by flaws similar to those that appeared in coverage of the Second Lebanon War as well as patterns of coverage not seen in the earlier conflict. In both cases, the Israeli media’s coverage of the first days of the fighting were characterized by feelings of self-righteousness and a sense of catharsis following what was felt to be undue restraint in the face of attacks by the enemy, along with support for the military action and few expressions of criticism. As in the Second Lebanon War, the current confrontation involves significant numbers of civilians on both sides, and as in the Second Lebanon War, this time as well, an Israeli soldier is being held captive by the enemy.

The television channels, in contrast with the two major newspapers, accurately showed the results of the closure that was tightened on Gaza; it's not ideological bias, it's all about rating.
